Dr. Siegfried Stiemer, P.E
Profile
Dr. Stiemer is a consulting engineer and a professor of structural engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Some of his current projects focus on the high precision design of complex adaptive structures, composite structures and innovative strategies for conceptual engineering design.
Background
On graduating from the University of Stuttgart (Germany) in 1979 with his Ph.D., he worked as a Research Engineer at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1981, he was offered the position of Associate Professor by the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia. He accepted, and then, in 1990 he became a Professor in the Civil Engineering Department. Dr. Stiemer has a wide range of experience in complex structures such as the designs of enclosures for telescopes in the astronomical community and amusement ride designs.
